Mérida is the gem every Mexico traveler should see at least once: the safest city in the country, a serious food scene, cenotes around the corner and colonial life still lived out in the streets. It's the perfect destination for those looking for culture, great food and a slower pace — the counterweight to the Caribbean.

Our Makou apartment is in a quiet, well-connected neighborhood, with a shared pool and everything you need to work remotely or spend a few days discovering cenotes, haciendas and colonial towns. A favorite of digital nomads and travelers who want to explore the peninsula beyond the beach.

Why Mérida

Safest city in Mexico

Mérida tops the country's safety rankings year after year. Walk with peace of mind, day or night.

Cenotes and haciendas

Dozens of cenotes under an hour away — Cuzamá, Homún, Yokdzonot — and restored henequen haciendas to visit and dine at.

Yucatecan cuisine

Cochinita, panuchos, sopa de lima, papadzules. One of the most singular and delicious regional cuisines in Mexico.

Base for Uxmal, Chichén Itzá and Izamal

All the major Maya sites and Pueblos Mágicos of the peninsula are 1–2 hours away.

Makou is in a quiet residential zone of Mérida, well connected to the historic center (15 min by car or Uber), with supermarkets, cafés and restaurants within walking distance. The right balance between silence to sleep and city within reach.

Frequently asked questions

+Is Mérida good for digital nomads?

Yes — one of Mexico's best remote destinations. Fast wifi in the apartment, cafés with reliable connection, an international community and reasonable cost of living.

+Do I need a car to visit the cenotes?

It helps a lot. Rentals from ~700 MXN/day. Alternative: day tours from Mérida to cenotes, Chichén Itzá and Uxmal.

+How hot does it get?

November through March is very comfortable. April through June is intense — up to 40 °C on some days. Air conditioning and the building's pool become essential.

+Is the pool private?

Shared with the building, but rarely crowded. It's large and has shaded areas.

+Is Mérida expensive?

One of Mexico's most affordable capitals. Eating well, moving around by Uber and visiting cenotes costs significantly less than in the Riviera Maya.

+Do you accept long stays?

Yes, with a discount for monthly bookings. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates.
